![]() ![]() Max was usually the one pushing the boundaries of 3D and it hasn't been doing that for quite some time. That makes its easy to piss off a large portion of their userbase if they get neglected for a prolonged time. Granted, some of the criticism is valid, but spreading lies because someone wishes it to be true is petty and discredits the person spreading them.Īnother thing is that Max is used in lots of pipelines in different fields/industries, it doesn't specialize in anything specific so it leads to different people needing/wanting different things out of it. I think Max gets hate by proxy because of Autodesk which is perceived as a greedy company that doesn't do enough. ![]() I didn't know people at big studies used all kinds of different software interchangeably. We also have issues sometimes since most arch viz asset for sale is for Max, so we have to convert them to use for C4D. Where i work now is a small company and we use C4D but it isn't interchangeable with any other software so not really sure how it would work together if one artist use one program and a different artist use another program when we are supposed to work on the same things. I'm not aware of any 3D software where you can use projects and assets interchangeably? If they have 50.000 assets for Max, you can't just use them for other software. Don't think i've ever seen a single job posting for a proffesional arch viz studio that uses Blender for example. Any archviz company i have ever worked at or applied to, have a software suit they work in and pay for. Okay, maybe it's different because i don't work in Hollywood or games. I understand the frustration though, because we are behind in many places UI wise. Man we come from a very very very dry times in upgrades and I see them coming now. Think also that the ACES color pipeline is beeing developed and that the USD work is beeing prioritized almost over everything else. I guess once the core changes are done we will see faster improvements. ![]() still not many visual upgrades, but I guess they don't wanna break stuff and go step by step from the core up.ĭevs know already that Ribbon needs to die eventually. Port of the SME to QT has been also done recently. of course takes time and is not a flashy improvement but I rather have that than just a visual upgrade.įor instance the HotKey editor is the first of a new UI refreshment core updates. We got some QTfy ( new system) UI in new modifiers and windows you can feel the difference in performance.īut I also see effort in fixing the core of the UI system instead of just updating the UI to look modern. ![]() we are getting miningfull updates lately. Max has things from 20 years ago that C4D still misses. Well different DCC have different priorities. If it "died" it wouldn't really make a difference except maybe support for large scale companies. There's even some modifiers and stuff they bought inside Max that says like "Copyright 2008" and shit lol. People have said it's dead for a decade because honestly if i went back to Max 2012 which i started on, I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same software. It's sad every time any other company, specifically Blender which is open source has minimal founding compared to Autodesk release cool stuff all the time, now there's AI textures and all this automated stuff meanwhile the brand new version of Max has 1% higher viewport FPS whoop-dee-doo. I highly doubt Max is gonna die because it's incredibly hard to change an industry standard, but me like many others wish they would kick it up a notch. The reason i use Max is because it's an industry standard so it's what i got taught in school and what they used at my first job, then my second job, and my third job. The only reason Max is an industry standard, is because It's old. I think the issue is that people see what other software and companies do and see that Max is incredibly far behind in terms of innovation. ![]()
